New Year! New Beginnings!

Children Dream BIG at Thornhill Primary School

A great start to the New Year last week when the Primary Business Partnership delivered an Aspiration session at Thornhill Primary School with the support of business volunteers, Hannah Simpson from AS Design and Penny Watson, a Freelance Photographer.

“The session was a great insight into a wide variety of careers that many of my children would never have known existed before. The children came away full of ideas of how they can aspire to whatever they want. Questioning real people who have had a variety of careers allowed the children to see that there are many, many opportunities available for them in the future and that they shouldn’t be afraid to aim high. They were excited to realise that if they work hard they can actually end up with a great career linked to something they actually enjoy doing!” explained Claire Murray, teacher at Thornhill Primary.

If you’d like to book one of these sessions in your school or if you’d like to offer to come along and share your career journey, please get in touch with the Primary Business Partnership team

We were joined by Alfie Oaten from Balfour Beatty at Moresby Primary School at the end of November for a challenging, fun filled afternoon of Contract to Cube-it.

We had some really positive feedback from the children regarding the Contract to Cube-It session. They said it was great fun, but really hard – an excellent combination in my opinion!

Ross Peacock, Head at Moresby Primary School, Whitehaven

The children created their own manufacturing business, learnt about industry, adding value, making decisions about their product and how best to produce it. The children used a range of skills from mathematical, communication, decision making, team work, negotiation and collaboration.

For more information take a look at the lesson plan on our resource page, we have a number of contract to cube-it resource boxes with all you need to deliver the session, all available for FREE. The link is below.

Thank you so much to our business volunteer, Alfie from Balfour Beatty and for Moresby Primary School for inviting us in.

If you’d like to book one of these sessions in your school or if you’d like to offer to help or borrow a box and delivery one of these workshops yourself please get in touch with the Primary Business Partnership team

MEGALITHIC – Mega/ Great this is what some of the yr 3 & 4 pupils at Gosforth Primary School described the session given by the Honister Slate lady as some of the staff described Tori!

But the pupils weren’t fooled by the components and make-up of the slate and it’s filling. No cheese, ham, or peanut butter filings here when we looked at Megalithic Sandwich Fillings! They worked out from the Geology and Geography what the slate was made up of, it’s age and it’s use past, present and future.

As for Fools Gold, there was no pulling the wool over the eyes of these bright students they did work out that unfortunately there is not ‘Gold’ in them ‘Hills’ just good quality slate that is still as prestigious today as it was in the past.

A great, fun, hands on learning experience had by all. Some budding palaeontologists, historians, manufacturers, and lots of other great aspirations to be had. As for our group photo shot, we didn’t shout ‘cheese’, but 1,2,3… ‘Slate!’

A BIG thanks to Tori from Honister Slate Mine and to Gosforth for welcoming us into their school.

Last month, Elizabeth from Kaefer delivered an Animal Me session at Holme St. Cuthbert School.

After the session the children were inspired to create a fantastic display to share with the whole school.

Head teacher, Lynn Carini explained,

As a follow up from the session we completed a display of what animal they were and aspirations for the future. Thank you so much, the children were really inspired by the session

It’s great to get this feedback from the school we were delighted to forward onto Elizabeth who runs these workshops.

“It is lovely to see the display made by Holme St Cuthbert’s following the animal personality session we ran in school. It was a fun session to deliver with the children thinking about their personalities and having lots of great ideas of what they would like to do in the future. The sessions we run in primary school are always good fun and rewarding, if you would like to inspire a young person please speak to the Primary Business Partnership about coming along to a session to see what it is all about, you will even find out what animal you are !”
